The Limbourg brothers were historical figures. Born in the Low Countries, but working in France, they went down in history as the makers of The Very Rich Hours of the Duke of Berry, a book of hours decorated with beautiful miniatures depicting allegories of the twelve months. This is not a historical play, though, but an attempt to find parallels between the Middle Ages and modern times. This philosophical play is a treatise on the condition of artists, which remains unchanging regardless of the era in which they live and work
