The Lost Art: Dirk Bouts. Diptych.

The diptych paintings depicting Our Lady of Sorrows and Christ as the Man of Sorrows, i.e., Ecce Homo, were created in the Netherlands in the workshop of Dirk Bouts around the second half of the 15th century. The Czartoryski family purchased the paintings in 1883. They became part of the collection at the Gołuchów Castle. When Augustyn Józef Czartoryski and his wife were detained in 1939 and their artworks were seized by the Germans, the diptych shared the fate of other artifacts that were transported out of Warsaw in 1944. The diptych was later discovered in the Museo Provincial de Pontevedra in Spain. In 2023, it was returned to Poland.
