Leon Rotman, a pupil at a primary school in Grodno, dreams of playing in a production of ‘Teutonic Knights’. When the Second World War breaks out, the Jewish boy does not know how to find a place for himself. Fascinated by the independence tradition, he changes his Star of David shirt for a scout uniform and joins the fight for the city.
