The Ostrowite sugar factory, owned by a Polish-English company, was blockaded by farmers at the beginning of the campaign. A pre-election rally of presidential candidate Lech Wałęsa was held in Warsaw. On 14 October, Tadeusz Mazowiecki started his presidential campaign in Cracow.
