On 4 July, 1920, the Red Army launched a decisive attack. Even though the enemy had a clear edge, Marshal Józef Piłsudski launched a counteroffensive 16 August. Polish troops attacked the rear of the 16th Russian Army engaged in combat on the outskirts of Warsaw, routing the enemy.
