At dawn on 1 September, Germany invaded Poland. The war was to be short, two weeks at most. On 17 September, the Soviet army crossed the eastern border. The “Poznań” and “Pomorze” armies were defeated on the Bzura river. Surrounded on all sides by General Blaskowitz’s troops, Warsaw surrendered on 28 September.
