Warsaw: prime minister Bolesław Bierut observes the construction of the Palace of Culture and Science. The most spectacular results of the October production campaigns: the tapping of pig iron from a new furnace at the Częstochowa Steelworks, the commissioning of a new power plant in Miechowice, the opening of the "Leningrad" cinema [later renamed "Neptun"] in Gdańsk, and finally the completion of the structural framework of the Palace of Culture and Science.
